Accountant

Our client is a rooibos export and marketing company, known for a wide and innovative range of value-added rooibos products, directly linked to their farms and the people working the fields and managing the quality of product they are producing. They are currently seeking a proficient and driven Accountant to join their team and play a pivotal role in their ongoing success. This position is based in Citrusdal.

Job Description:

As an Accountant, you will assume a critical role in overseeing and managing the operational expenses. This position is tailored for individuals with a fervent interest in both agriculture and/or FMCG and finance, particularly in the realm of cost analysis. Over and above the day-to-day operations, you will be collaborating closely with the finance team and operational departments, you will ensure precise cost reporting, identify avenues for cost reduction, and actively contribute to enhancing the overall profitability of their farming and/or FMCG operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in day-to-day accounting functions as required for all the companies- and trust accounts, where necessary
  • Conduct thorough analysis and reporting on the production costs associated with various products
  • Monitor and scrutinize operational expenses to pinpoint opportunities for cost optimization
  • Work collaboratively with operational teams to devise and uphold effective cost control measures
  • Track and reconcile financial transactions linked to operational costs
  • Collaborate with operational teams to develop and maintain cost control measures, including inventory management and procurement processes
  • Assist in the preparation of comprehensive financial reports and statements
  • Support budgeting and forecasting endeavours pertaining to operational expenses
  • Furnish management with requisite financial data and reports as necessary
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and regulatory developments pertinent to agricultural and/or FMCG cost accounting

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • A SAIPA qualification will be beneficial
  • At least 2 years’ experience as an accountant
  • Knowledge of South African tax regulations and agricultural accounting principles is advantageous
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (Business Central will be advantageous)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to thrive both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
  • Willingness to continuously learn and advance within the organization
  • Passion for agriculture and/or FMCG and a keen eagerness to delve into the intricacies of the industry
