Fruit Procurement Manager
Our client in the fruit industry is currently seeking to appoint a Fruit Procurement Manager to assist the procurement and logistics team in sourcing, loading and assessing the quality of fruit and vegetable, mostly fresh fruit, for export sales. This position is based in Observatory, Cape Town.
Key tasks and responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
- Check availability and packing programs of fruit at farms and cooperatives
- Maintain good relationships with suppliers / farmers
- Check QA of product packed at farms and pack houses
- Oversee loadings at depots
- Coordinate buying and sourcing new suppliers / new product lines
- Negotiate prices and payments under the guidance of the Director / GM
- Oversee physical transfer of goods and logistics arrangements for stock movements
- Research growing, harvesting, storing trends in the industry
- Assist Logistics with routine tasks and ad-hoc requests
- Extensive traveling in the producing areas of the W-Cape with occasional visits to other provinces
- Stock monitoring
- Keeping / coordinating request from sales and communicating on availability / time
- frame to load requested orders
Minimum requirements:
- Degree in Commerce / Agricultural Economics or Agronomy
- 5 years’ experience in buying / purchasing department / inspection agencies, packing concerns in fresh produce
- Knowledge of the fruit and vegetable industry is essential
- Strong negotiation skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Hands-on, dynamic, willing to learn
- Fluent in English and Afrikaans
