Packhouse Manager (Citrusdal)
Our client in Citrusdal is currently looking for a suitably qualified and experienced Packhouse Manager to join their team.
As a Packhouse Manager, you will be responsible for the efficient and effective management of their citrus and deciduous fruit packing facility. This role requires strong leadership, excellent organizational skills, and a thorough understanding of packhouse operations.
Responsibilities:
- General Management
- Oversee and manage all aspects of the packhouse operations, ensuring smooth workflow and adherence to quality standards
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize productivity and efficiency
- Monitor and evaluate performance metrics, adjusting as necessary to meet production targets
- Producer and Market Liaison
- Collaborate with producers to ensure timely and accurate delivery of fruit for packing
- Facilitate communication and build strong relationships with producers and suppliers
- Coordinate with marketing teams to execute packing programs and meet market demands
- Quality Control and Monitoring
- Establish and maintain quality control procedures to ensure product integrity and compliance with industry standard.
- Implement proper controls for ongoing monitoring of product quality and packaging processes
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify areas for improvement and address any quality issues
- Maintenance and Cleanliness
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of packhouse equipment, ensuring optimal functionality
- Implement cleaning and sanitation protocols to maintain a hygienic and safe working environment
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and certifications, such as BRC (British Retail Consortium) standards
- Team Management
- Lead and supervise a team of packhouse staff, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback
- Foster a positive work culture, promoting teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Effectively manage workforce scheduling to meet production requirements
Requirements:
- Tertiary qualification in Production Management, Agriculture, Engineering, B.Com, Food Technology, or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years’ of experience as a Packhouse Manager or in a similar leadership role within a packhouse environment
- Proven track record in managing a diverse workforce and achieving production targets
- Practical knowledge of mechanical maintenance and troubleshooting in a packhouse setting
- Familiarity with packhouse technology, including packing equipment and software systems.
- Detail-oriented and operationally driven, with a strong focus on quality and efficiency
- Excellent observational skills to identify potential issues and implement corrective actions
- Above-average computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office packages
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective communication at all levels
- Strong leadership and organizational abilities, with the capacity to motivate and develop a team
