Procurement and Logistics Assistant

Our client is an established company trading in premium fruit. They are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced individual as their Procurement and Logistics Assistant. This position is based in Observatory, Cape Town.

Duties:

  • Liaise with Accounts, Procurement / Logistics & Sales department
  • Provide regular reporting and assist Sales Manager/Director, procurement and logistics as required.
  • Assist the logistics agent by:
    • Liaising with shipping lines / freight forwarder and shipping line regarding loadings, bookings and relevant documents
    • Ensuring on-time receipt of export documentation
    • Communication, rate negotiations, invoice checking and approval with shipping lines, freight forwarders (national and cross trade), PPECB, department of agriculture, transporters
    • Container loading schedule and monitoring from booking to reception at port of delivery
    • Reporting and statistics (shipment report, export report, shipment statistic, export statistics)
  • Assist the procurement agent by:
    • Checking availability and packing programs of fruit at farms and cooperatives
    • Maintaining good relationships with suppliers / farmers
    • Negotiating prices and payments under the guidance of the Director / GM
    • Overseeing physical transfer of goods and logistics arrangements for stock movements
    • Overseeing loadings at depots
    • Keeping / coordinating request from sales and communicating on availability / time frame to load requested orders
    • Assisting the manager to do market research and implementation

Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree/Diploma in Business Management/Administration/ Supply Chain Management
  • At least 3 years’ experience as an assistant / general admin / logistics / sales
  • Knowledge of the fruit and vegetable industry will be beneficial
  • Fluency in French will be beneficial but is not necessary
  • Excellent MS Office skills
  • Autonomous, hands-on, and proactive
  • Willing to learn
  • Strong organizational and inter-personal skills
  • Fluent in English and Afrikaans
