Procurement Manager

Our client is the largest fruit company in China with its headquarters in Hong Kong. It manages trading, procurement and marketing operations across the Asian region through its various subsidiary companies and has representative offices in several Asian countries.

They are seeking to appoint a Procurement Manager for their South African office based in Bellville, Cape Town. This position reports to the General Manager.

Main Duties:

  • Establish a world class supply base on citrus and grapes who are able to supply the right quality at a competitive price to all markets (Hong Kong for S.E.A), China, Singapore and Japan
  • Take overall responsibility for supply and managing volumes shipped  to China on all product groups (Citrus, Gapes and Pome Fruit)
  • Manage the supply base through regular communication and visits in order to build strong relationships
  • Have a grower strategy to grow volumes with key growers
  • Obtain seasonal demand from markets and issue Pre-Season programs to growers well in advance of them starting to pack
  • Develop thorough knowledge and understanding of each growers business
  • Have a good understanding of the Quality Standard required by each market and communicate the standard to growers
  • Visit growers to help manage quality  and ensure that growers pack to required standard
  • Obtain market intelligence
  • Develop a good understanding of the Customers as well as the requirements and dynamic of each market (especially China)
  • Agree Terms of Trade agreed with each grower
  • Review demand through Sales Orders
  • Follow up with growers with progress on packing to ensure that the demand from the market is fulfilled
  • Share information with the Operations & Logistics & Administrative teams in the RSA office to enable them to fulfil their function
  • Do costing on Ex Worx, DIP, FOB and CIF level
  • Settle any claims between the market and growers in a fair and responsible manner to ensure continuity and sustainability of the business

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 with a relevant tertiary qualification in Marketing or Logistics
  • 3-5 Years’ commercial experience in a marketing, grower relationship or procurement position within the fruit exporting industry
  • Specific experience in the Citrus Industry would definitely be preferred and be an advantage. Exposure to trading Markets (China and South East Asia) will be beneficial
  • A strong understand the Logistical Cost Chain and Incoterms
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiating skills
  • Management skills (including Performance Management, Stress management)
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Time management (ability to meet deadlines)
