Quality Controller (Piketberg)

Our client is an internationally recognized grower, packer and exporter of citrus fruit and table grapes. Their farms and packhouses are situated across the Western Cape, with their head office based in Bellville.

They have a vacancy for a Quality Controller at their table grape and citrus packhouse approximately 10 km north of Piketberg. This position reports to the Packhouse Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Interpret and explain pack instructions to QC team
  • Monitor foreign bodies and record shelf-life inspections
  • Verify records of daily quality and weight monitoring by QC team
  • Liaise with laboratories regarding MRL samples
  • Verify individual scale records and ensure the accuracy of the refractometer and sizing rings/callipers
  • Oversee internal analyses and trend results
  • Order chemicals for internal analyses
  • Maintain the online PhytClean system
  • Ensure that farms and packhouses understand the quality parameter
  • Monitor, upgrade and maintain QC systems
  • Oversee quality and ensure that the daily QC reports are received, signed off and filed
  • Ensure grower receives report and accepts it as accurate
  • Record PPECB rejections and communicate to all relevant parties

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 with a relevant tertiary qualification
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Willing to work irregular/night shift and long hours (as required by the fruit packing industry)
  • Own housing and transport
