General Manager

Our client is a leading packer of top-quality fruit based in the Langkloof in the Eastern Cape. They require the services of a suitably qualified and experienced General Manager to be responsible for the strategic and operational management of the company.

Further responsibility includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Strategic direction regarding vision, mission, objectives and structure of the company
  • Customer liaison and promotion of customer relationships
  • Reporting to the board by way of board meetings and ad-hoc liaison with Board of Directors
  • Act as external communications officer of the Company including the regular communication with producers/shareholders of the Company
  • Promoting the interests of shareholders
  • Promoting the image of the company and establishing their brand
  • Protection of the external interests of the company

Operational Management

  • Cost effective and efficient packaging and cooling of fruit
  • Identifying and managing marketing agents
  • Acts as owner of the food safety system and overhead control over its application
  • Overhead control over financial disciplines within the company
  • Ultimate responsibility for meeting all statutory requirements and legislation
  • Proper resource planning, including where necessary keeping up with technological innovation
  • Being hands-on and involved in the daily activities of the business

Personnel Management

  • Ultimate responsibility for the performance of duties in accordance with duty statements of the respective divisional managers
  • Regular communication with management team by way of management meetings, which will cover food safety, finance and admin, operational and labour matters
  • Overall control of the appointment of personnel and management of the personnel plan
  • Establishing and controlling the application of a disciplinary and grievance code within the company

Requirements:

  • Postgraduate qualification in business management, with specific references to Financial Management and/or engineering
  • 10 years of experience in a similar role in agriculture
  • Experience in the deciduous fruit industry will count in the applicant’s favour
