Operations Manager

Our client is a prominent Estate just outside of Franschhoek, with a division that grows and packs herbs 7 days a week for the South African retail market. They are seeking to employ an Operations Manager to execute a successful sales and operational strategy.

The successful candidate will represent the company to commercial customers, and at the same time oversee the day-to-day operations of the packhouse.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

 Commercial responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing all commercial sales and key commercial relationships
  • Collaborate with senior management to develop the sales strategy that is in line with the divisional strategy
  • Works closely with Senior Management to create the divisional budget
  • Market research and insights
  • Represent the company to visitors and guests and attends tradeshows, events, customer meetings, and other venues to assist with presenting and promoting the company products

Production responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with the production team to develop an accurate crop forecast that reflects future demand
  • Stock management on ERP
  • Employee management
  • Providing direction for handling cases of product failure
  • Providing leadership to the day-to-day operations of the division
  • Ensure effective departmental communication and collaboration
  • Provide input and recommendations for new products and varieties
  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned
  • Prepare and manage food safety audits

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree / Diploma in Business, Marketing, Operations Management
  • At least 5 years’ related sales / management experience in a supervisory/management position with a proven ability to manage, develop and mentor staff preferably in the fresh produce industry
  • Experience with planning, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Basic knowledge of ERP system specifically PO and stock online systems
  • Knowledge and experience of HCCAP / GlobalGap
  • Fluent in English and Afrikaans
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively present information in formal and informal settings to peers, customers and industry leaders
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with strict attention to detail and prioritization
  • The ability to display good judgment and positively influence team decision making and operations
  • Able to operate in a multicultural environment and ability to work effectively with diverse communities
  • Must demonstrate professional and ethical business practices, adherence to company values, and a commitment to personal and professional development
