Head of Engineering

Our client is  a leader in the citrus industry and a vertically integrated producer, packer and exporter, located in the Citrusdal valley has an opportunity for the position of Head of Engineering to join their Management team.

The Head of Engineering will provide strategic leadership, coordination, and support to drive best-in-class engineering practices and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

This role will contribute to the organisation’s ongoing success and industry leadership. As a member of the senior management team, the successful candidate will collaborate closely with other department heads and group entities to drive business success.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Strategy
    • Drive operational excellence and future growth through strategic planning and technical leadership focused on sustainability, efficiency, and innovation.
  • Maintenance and Operational Efficiency
    • Lead maintenance, automation, and lean initiatives, and develop SOPs for engineering and maintenance activities.
  • Water and Energy Management
    • Lead water and energy initiatives focused on sustainability, compliance, and efficiency.
  • Project Management and Engineering Excellence
    • Oversee projects and lead system development, design, and process improvements to deliver timely, budget-friendly, and quality results.
  • Collaboration and Innovation
    • Drive innovation and continuous improvement through data- driven decision-making and stakeholder collaboration.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Agricultural, Mechanical, Civil Engineering or related field
  • Professional Engineering registration (advantageous)
  • Minimum 5 years’ management experience in an agricultural or operational environment
  • Experience with agricultural systems, particularly water and irrigation systems
  • Experience with energy management, renewable energy systems, and energy optimization
  • Proven track record of successful project management and leadership
  • Strong teamwork, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills
  • Exceptional critical thinking, leadership, and communication abilities
  • Knowledge of automation and control systems, and condition monitoring technologies
