Fitter and Turner

Our client is one of the major role players in the pome fruit industry, located in Grabouw. They are seeking a dynamic Fitter and Turner to join their engineering team.

 Main duties:

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Fabricate, assemble, install, maintain, and repair machinery and components.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues and perform preventative maintenance.
  • Operate hand and machine tools (lathes, milling machines, grinders, welding).
  • Work with various metals and materials.
  • Collaborate with engineers and tradespeople on projects.
  • Complete job cards, time sheets, and assist with spare parts procurement.
  • Train, guide, and motivate apprentices and junior staff.
  • Maintain a safe, clean workspace and prioritize food safety.

 Requirements:

  • Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate and a Fitter & Turner qualification.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a qualified Fitter & Turner in a manufacturing environment, preferably with packhouse experience.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic electrical knowledge, numeracy skills, and ability to operate lathes and milling machines.
  • Supervisory abilities, innovative thinking, and capacity to train and lead others.
  • Physically capable of lifting heavy equipment and working at heights or in confined spaces.
  • Familiarity with company processes and systems, including BRC, safety systems, and SOPs.
  • Willingness to work overtime with standby responsibilities.
