Operations Manager: Cold Rooms
The Operations Manager will be responsible the overall planning, organizing and control over the execution of the following activities by staff within the Cold room and Controlled atmosphere department:
- Overall planning, organization, and supervision of the execution of the following activities by staff within the cold storage department:
- Fruit intake and offloading, as well as all related logistical operations;
- Cold storage and cold chain management of all fruit;
- Inventory management of packed and unpacked fruit;
- Maintenance of buildings, all refrigeration equipment, and all monitoring equipment, ensuring they always remain in functional condition;
- Water supply and site maintenance;
- Implementation of general hygiene and food safety standards in accordance with HACCP / BRC requirements, and the maintenance of related records.
- Preparation of the budget and implementation of budgetary control for the cold storage department;
- Implementation of Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements regarding equipment and staff practices by creating a safe working environment;
- Managing staff in a manner that fosters increased productivity and morale, while ensuring compliance with the requirements of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act and the Labour Relations Act;
- Implementation of good manufacturing practices in accordance with the company’s HACCP/GMP/BRC program, and application of the company’s quality assurance system and policy;
- Planning and execution of preventive maintenance for buildings and refrigeration equipment, and supervision of external contractors in this regard;
- Planning in consultation with the General Manager and the Board of Directors, regarding the expansion and upgrading of the current refrigeration system to accommodate increased capacity and keep pace with technological changes and industry innovations;
- Ensuring customer satisfaction regarding the delivery of an effective and efficient cooling service, with specific reference to producers and external clients, including export agents and logistics entities;
- Actively participating in management meetings and strategic planning sessions as a member of the management team to ensure the company’s continued existence and sustainable profitability.
Requirements:
- Grade 12 with
- Experience of the deciduous fruit industry will also count in the applicant’s favour
- 5 years management experience in similar capacity
- Experience of controlled atmospheric cold rooms and their operation, as well as ordinary atmospheric cold rooms
- Knowledge of the operation of Gas-at-Site Equipment and cooling monitoring system will count in the applicant’s favor.
