Table Grape Production Assistant

 

Our client is a leading grower, packer and exporter of fresh fruit (citrus and table grapes) in South Africa. Their production units are situated across the Western Cape, with their head office in Bellville near Cape Town. The company has a vacancy for a Table Grape Production Assistant at Steenebrug farm in Piketberg. The position will report to the Production Manager and is available immediately.

 

Main Duties: 

Production

  • Irrigation scheduling
  • Application of fertilizer
  • Pest and plague control
  • Weed control
  • Planting of citrus and vineyards
  • Pruning

Personnel and administration

  • Labour planning
  • Record-keeping

Financial

  • Cost control by focusing on productivity
  • Budget management
  • Any other related duty that might be required of you from time to time

Requirements:

  • A tertiary qualification in agriculture or a relevant qualification
  • Up to three years’ experience in the cultivation of table grapes
  • Experience in the handling of teams of workers
  • Knowledge of table grape production practices such as pest control, pruning, harvest and packing
  • Computer literate – Outlook, Internet
  • Driver’s license
  • Knowledge of maintenance (irrigation systems) will be beneficial
