Engineering Manager

Our client is a major role player in the pome fruit industry. They are looking for a dynamic, energetic Engineering Manager to manage the engineering team.This position is based in Grabouw.

Duties will include but will not be limited to:

  • Align the Engineering department to achieve operational and maintenance targets in line with operations objectives and develop the strategies in support of this
  • Be responsible for identifying training and development opportunities, as well as new skills required to improve the overall capability of the engineering function
  • To lead, coach and manage the engineering team to ensure an engaged workforce
  • Design and maintenance of Policies, Procedures and systems in support of the effective functioning of the Engineering Department
  • Responsible for development and execution of the maintenance strategies to ensure plant availability and operations in line with the strategy and operational requirements, including preventive maintenance and spare part management
  • Manage the preventative maintenance system by ensuring equipment history and breakdown work orders are managed so that emerging trends can be analysed as an additional source of improving maintenance plans
  • Reduce downtime by overseeing the maintenance of the plant equipment- buildings- and other assets to protect these assets
  • Manage operational and capital budgets
  • Research, plan and investigate all replacement and new capital expenditure to ensure capital is executed cost effectively and technically correct
  • Using best practice project methodology, manage engineering capex projects in line with the strategic development plan
  • Ensuring that projects are executed according to a project plan, within time constraints and with the effective control of contractors
  • Demonstrate visible leadership in the execution of the Safety Management System and execute the GMR2 responsibilities in compliance with the OHSACT
  • Responsible for the continuous provision of site utilities and services.
  • Ensure compliance with all other relevant site standards and requirements specifically related to Food Safety, environmental management and site security
  • Responsible for site security, access control and risk management

The ideal candidate should have at least the following:

  • Degree/Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) Factories,
  • Thorough knowledge of OSHACT, Good Manufacturing Practices, and codes and regulations applying to the operation of a food products factory.
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience in managing the engineering function.
  • Proven experience in the planning and management of capital projects
  • Experience in Food Manufacturing.
