Agricultural Economist

 

Our client, Vinpro, is the independent service organization that renders specialist services to South African wine producers and represents them on various forums. They currently have an opportunity for a dynamic individual to join the agricultural economics function at their organization.

The position entails, inter alia:

  • Maintaining study groups at primary production level
  • Undertaking research, report writing and presenting viability and other economic studies at production and cellar level
  • Writing agricultural economics articles for wine industry publications
  • Representing the organization on certain forums/committees
  • Handling a spectrum of agricultural economics enquiries
  • Updating agricultural economics industry norms, as well as compiling the cost guide
  • Presenting lectures and preparing presentations for producer, supplier, and information days
  • Close liaison with viticulturists, soil scientists, the organization’s BEE advisory service and information service
  • Presentations and industry reviews to the management and members at cellars

Requirements:

  • BSc Agric/B. Com degree (Agricultural Economics) or related qualification with a background and strong skills in information systems
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in an analytical or relevant field
  • Knowledge and experience of the wine industry and agricultural economics related services
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, organizational and presentation skills
  • Must be a highly motivated and creative person who can function independently and does not shy away from challenges
  • Willingness to travel to all regions across the wine industry
  • The ability to address audiences autonomously, and with ease, and to communicate fluently in both English and Afrikaans (verbally and in writing)
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
