Irrigation Coordinator

Our client is an internationally recognized grower, packer and exporter of citrus fruit and table grapes. Their farms and packhouses are situated across the Western Cape, with their head office based in Bellville along with their associates based in other provinces.

They have a vacancy for an irrigation coordinator at their head office in Bellville. This position will provide a support function to farm management. Due to the nature of the job, it will be necessary for the incumbent to travel frequently to all production units across the Western Cape. They use high tech fertilization with drip irrigation. This means that the irrigation and fertilization programmes are managed together.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate: Current irrigation, fertilizer. and decision-making platforms across all production units to ensure a high uniform standard of data monitoring throughout the group.
  • Monitor: Ensure support to farm management and subsequent farm-based irrigation/fertilizer ‘Champions’ in order that they can confidently determine and direct optimal irrigation/fertilizer practices.
  • Advice/training: Work in close collaboration with external irrigation/fertilizer consultants to guide, advise, train and support farm management.
  • System audit: Achieve a constant improvement in the current system/s by identifying new approaches and introducing better methods.

 Requirements:

  • Grade 12
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in agriculture, with experience in the management of irrigation systems will be preferred
  • Knowledge of modern production practices and technologically advanced irrigation systems
  • Good leadership and communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office (particularly Excel)
