Packing Material Procurement Manager

Our client is one of South Africa’s largest fruit-packing and marketing companies. They are looking for a suitably qualified and experienced individual as their Packing Material Procurement Manager This position is based in the vicinity of Grabouw in the Western Cape.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Packing material planning: Ensure that all packing material is available just in time for production according to the production/packhouse needs to maintain optimum throughput and limit downtime. Manage the optimum stock levels of packing material (including redundant stock) in the different stores.
  • Service delivery: Ensure that the best prices are always negotiated with suppliers. Drive effective communication and service delivery towards suppliers and internal clients (production/packhouse, marketing, engineering, etc.). Improve and maintain systems and processes to create a culture of excellence.
  • Financial management: Effective cost management of the packing material budget and forecasts. Ensure that all financial transactions, stock controls/checks, procedures, and reporting are done correctly and timely with the necessary record-keeping. Drive cost-saving initiatives in all areas involved for maximum benefits to the company and its producers/shareholders. Drive and monitor the profit on the sale of packing material.
  • Quality Management and compliance: Implement and maintain processes that focus on the quality of packing material received and in storage, according to marketing and production needs and the end clients’ and suppliers’ specifications. Ensure a clean and safe working environment in the main store, staging and carton assembly areas in line with the company’s safety standards. Ensure that all documentation, working methods and quality procedures meet BRC audit standards.
  • Personnel Management: Plan, organise, and manage employees in the packing material store and carton assembly area to achieve the planned throughput and goals. Maintain discipline in accordance with the basic conditions of the Employment Act. Ensure employee morale remains high by being involved on the floor and promptly addressing all enquiries. Assist in identifying training needs and lead the team’s daily MDWT meetings and innovations. Effectively manage the team’s performance and tries to develop them and must have sound knowledge of HR trends, legislation, and personal effectiveness for continuous improvement

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree in finance/accounting/business/ economics/supply chain or similar
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in purchasing
  • Experience in the fruit industry
  • Good negotiation skills
  • Good knowledge of food safety & safety regulations
  • Experience in quality standards, customer specifications and packing material
  • Good mathematical, financial/accounting, computer, and communication skills
  • Candidate must have excellent leadership, motivational and conflict-handling skills
  • Must be able to manage people, function well in a team and can build good relationships and operate according to the company’s ethical standards
