Commercial Manager

Our client is a Namibian-registered private company producing and selling fruit for the national and international market.  They are seeking a mature, experienced person to join their team as the Commercial Manager.

The Commercial Manager will ideally be based remotely, able to travel and be available to be present on the farm over most of the harvest period.

 Purpose of the role:

 The purpose of the Commercial Manager is to optimise the company’s long-term net farmgate income through the management of an integrated fruit export and logistics strategy.

The Commercial Manager will efficiently service customers from order enquiry to delivery, coordinate the export readiness of a customer’s order between the customer and outsourced logistics service providers (road, sea, and air), which includes administration of customer service complaints.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of all the company’s fruit exports and commercial relationships with international customers.

The Commercial Manager will work closely with, and report to the CEO, and have the following responsibilities.

Key performance areas: 

  • Sales:
    • Drive the development and implementation of the sales and marketing strategy in respect to the fruit produce
    • Assist with the strategic brand management and development
    • Oversight of the procurement and management of packing material
  • Customer Relationship Management
  • Account Management
  • Sales Administration
  • Reporting – will include amongst others Annual Budget, Annual Marketing Plan, Quarterly Board Report
  • Assistance with audits such as BRCGS, GlobalGAP and SMETA

 Requirements:

  • Grade 12 with a relevant tertiary qualification in Commerce, Marketing or Logistics
  • In-depth knowledge of the fruit export value chain and / or at least 5 years’ experience in a relevant commercial position
  • In-depth experience with a successful track record of working in all aspects of selling and marketing fruits or fresh fruit
  • Experience of working in a corporate agriculture framework
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiating skills
  • Building and maintaining good client relationships
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent planning and coordination skills
  • Strong time management skills and deadline driven
  • Strong administration skills and attention to detail
  • Computer literacy MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • A valid driver’s license and ability to travel
