Proposed National Minimum Wage hike for 2026

South Africa’s National Minimum Wage Commission has put forward its recommendation for 2026, proposing an increase of CPI + 1.5%. If inflation trends hold, this could see the minimum wage rise by around 5% to R30.23 per hour, impacting more than 5.5 million workers nationwide. The proposal is now open for public comment until 12 January 2026, before final adjustments are announced early next year
