Labour Law Amendment Bill

Government Gazette (26 February 2026) has published the Labour Law Amendment Bill, 2025 for public comment – proposing major changes to the LRA, BCEA, EEA and NMWA. Highlights include a new R1.8 million earnings threshold affecting reinstatement, increased severance pay (from one to two weeks per completed year of service for future service), expanded employee protections, start-up relief from certain bargaining council extensions, and amendments to CCMA powers and minimum wage calculations.

These proposals could significantly impact how employers manage dismissals, restructuring and compliance.
